Do the Right Thing

I used to know exactly what the “right thing” was. In my younger years, and in most every situation, I had my opinion and felt strongly it was the “right” one.

Then I lived a few more decades and got a tad wiser. Not a Yoda by any means, but I gained the type of insight that comes from living life and through societal changes.

When I was a very young girl, the “right” thing was to send children to specific schools based on their race alone. As I grew into a teenager and young adult, I was led to believe the “right” thing was to pay women a lower wage than their male colleagues doing the same job. Well into my adulthood, the “right” thing was to only recognize legal marriage between heterosexual couples.

A lot has changed over the last sixty years and thankfully so. I’ve come to recognize that prevailing opinions shift based on societal norms, customs, spiritual practices and developments in science and technology.

Who Do You Choose to Believe?

We live in the information age. More books, more blogs, more TV programs, more news outlets than ever before and we often suffer from feeling like we don’t know who or what to believe.

I do. Here’s my tip: check your source.

No, this isn’t a blog about the validity of international government agencies, specific news channels or your favorite talking head. It’s bigger than that.

Check your source, or more to the point, check with your Source.

Many of my clients are quick to check with Source (God, Universe, Love or whatever term you prefer) when loved ones are ill, they’re up for a raise or having relationship issues. Great! You know I always direct you to check with your own inner divine guidance for challenges such as these.

I find folks often forget this “hotline” is always open. For everything.

Going to a restaurant or ordering in? Want to know what would be the best choice? Sure, you can ask your partner or best friend AND check in with...

How I Learned to Vote for God

Recently I was at my daughter’s house discussing an upcoming statewide election with her and her husband. My four-year-old grandson was playing on the floor nearby.

Well aware the little guy is always listening; I chose my words carefully as I expressed my disappointment over the campaign rhetoric. I naively thought name calling, fear tactics and inuendo were over after our last presidential election.

I was wrong.

As the adults shared our frustration and disgust, we suddenly heard Emory’s voice.

His head popped up from playing as he said, “I know what to do.”

“What’s that, honey?” I asked.

“Vote for God,” he calmly answered. He put his head down and quickly became absorbed with his toys.

My daughter and I looked at each other in amazement. My son-in-law tried not to laugh.

As I cast my ballot a few days later in early voting, I didn’t see God’s name on the ballot. But I did realize this was yet another opportunity to...

The Courage to Stay in the Conversation

I wasn’t the bravest kid in school. I was the “good girl” who followed directions but seldom rocked the boat. I don’t enjoy rough waves, disagreeable conversations or being in unpleasant situations.

But here I am.

While it’s easy to talk “love and light” to my “spiritual” friends, I have noticed my reluctance to be around those who think differently. Or those who – often loudly – spout ideas I find frightening. And I realized something.

That’s not love. At least not the kind of love I’m here to live.

The Oneness I believe in includes everyone. Every. One. Those of all beliefs, opinions, viewpoints, perspectives, spiritual practices, and individual preferences.

Everyone.

How can I teach the virtues of Oneness and hide from what my ego fears could be unpleasant encounters? I can’t.

So I’ve committed to stay in conversation with family, friends, colleagues, everyone who comes into my world. Not to...

Chaos as an Invitation to Love

So I bet you’d rather NOT get an invitation from “chaos,” even if it is to remember love.

But it happens. And it’s happening now.

While 2021 feels different than the chaos of 2020, there’s no doubt we’re all still facing much uncertainty. At home. At work. And in the world.

We’ve seen the recent global upheaval challenge institutions, tear open social wounds and force businesses to rethink the way they do everything. And it’s done something else.

Chaos brings with it an invitation to remember that which never changes.

The spiritual truth of universal love, compassion, kindness and recognizing oneness can anchor us to feelings of peace within, even when the winds of change are howling. That truth is felt deep inside when we allow the Divine wisdom of our own heart to comfort and guide us to love.

How can we do that? By remembering universal spiritual principles that lead us back to the truth.

#1 Love unites, fear separates.

The outside...
