Who Do You Choose to Believe?

We live in the information age. More books, more blogs, more TV programs, more news outlets than ever before and we often suffer from feeling like we don’t know who or what to believe.

I do. Here’s my tip: check your source.

No, this isn’t a blog about the validity of international government agencies, specific news channels or your favorite talking head. It’s bigger than that.

Check your source, or more to the point, check with your Source.

Many of my clients are quick to check with Source (God, Universe, Love or whatever term you prefer) when loved ones are ill, they’re up for a raise or having relationship issues. Great! You know I always direct you to check with your own inner divine guidance for challenges such as these.

I find folks often forget this “hotline” is always open. For everything.

Going to a restaurant or ordering in? Want to know what would be the best choice? Sure, you can ask your partner or best friend AND check in with yourself. This guidance is always available for you.

It’s easy, although it might take a bit of effort to create a solid relationship with your inner divine. If you’ve got a consistent spiritual practice, you’re on your way. If not, take a few minutes each day to journal or simply shut your eyes, put your hand on your heart, breathe in and out a few times and ask, “Love, what do you most want me to know today?”

If your answers or guidance bring you a sense of peace, expansion, or spark creativity you’re connecting to your inner divine. (NOTE: I don’t always like the guidance I receive, and even resist it. However, if the feeling around it is safe and loving, I always believe it is ultimately for my highest and best.)

If you feel constricted or fearful about the information you’ve received, check your source. A little trick of the ego is to keep you confused, or unsure. Don’t believe it. Shake it off, might even wait a few minutes, and connect to your heart again.

Be gentle with yourself and remember this is a process.

What happens when you don’t even know where to start?

I can tell you what I do. My ultimate resource for outside guidance is the book A COURSE IN MIRACLES which I now actively use in my coaching practice. This hefty book has a substantial text, 365 daily lessons, a manual for teachers and more within its 1,000 plus pages. (Told you it was hefty.)

While I have many, many favorite passages, when I need reassurance about who to believe I go back to the last lessons in the workbook, Lesson 361 – 365:

“This holy instant would I give to You.

Be You in charge. For I would follow You,

Certain that Your direction gives me peace.

And if I need a word to help me, He will give it to me. If I need a thought, that will He also give. And if I need but stillness and a tranquil, open mind, these are the gifts I will receive of Him….”

When looking for who or what to believe in any situation, go to the Source of divine wisdom that is always available within your own heart.
