Rest, Relax and Remember
Jul 30, 2024A few weeks ago, I awoke early on a Sunday morning and smiled as I walked through the house.
Not even the cat was awake as I welcomed the silence and grabbed my journal.
I lit a candle, settled myself in my favorite spot at the kitchen counter, took a few deep breaths and wrote at the top of the page, “Love, what do you most want me to know today?”
My fingers started to glide across the page and the words “rest, relax and remember” emerged.
As the journal session continued, the message wasn’t what I had expected for the lazy day I’d planned.
Instead of being guided to physically “take a rest” the journal entry was “Rest from judgements...”
Immediately I recalled several times in the previous days when judgmental thoughts had streamed through my mind in response to current events. I quickly saw my thoughts had been an automatic and mindless reaction from fear.
Uh Oh…
What struck me as I re-read my journal was how tender the direction had been. No harsh words like “refrain, resist or reject judgement.” I was simply guided to “rest.” Rest as in “simply stop.” It was gentle and specific.
The clarification for the term “relax” was gentle and effective as well. “Relax,” I wrote, “let go, relax, release your hold on repetitive thoughts, habits and patterns that you know no longer serve you. Release what you recognize you have outgrown.”
I had an image of my own tight fist relaxing and could visualize all the energy that was released as my grip loosened.
“That makes sense,” I thought.
The final sentences in my message brought the second smile of the day. This one was much broader.
“Remember that without judgement and the old habits that keep you in fear it’s easy to remember who you are. A divine soul embodied in human form.”
“Move as you are guided today. And do it in joy.”
I’ve been thinking about this message a lot. I believe this was a message for me and for all of us on an empowered spiritual path.
As you go through your week, I invite you to ask yourself:
How might I rest from judging myself and others today?
What thoughts, habits or patterns do I now recognize I’ve outgrown?
How can I best remember my divine self today?
And
How can I bring more joy to everything I think, do or say?
Something to think about.
