Noise or Peace? The Choice You Make Every Day

Oct 01, 2025
Diane L Haworth

Lately I've been reflecting on how we communicate about what's happening in the world.

Here's a question:

When you speak to a colleague, post on social media, or forward a meme—are you adding to the noise in our environment or creating a space for more peace and collaboration?

What we do matters. I’ll admit, I’ve shared plenty of “harmless” jokes or videos that, on reflection, probably added more distraction than peace. I've become much more aware of the energy and intent behind what I choose to share. This doesn't mean I've lost my sense of humor. Not at all! I'm simply asking "what's the intent behind this?" before I post.

To be clear, it's not about avoiding disagreement, it's about being intentional with the energy we put into the world.

As the world grows more tense, one question feels increasingly important: Does what I’m sharing create division, or does it invite compassion and peace?

I’m not suggesting you abandon your values. I’m inviting you to practice what Steven Covey encouraged years ago: “Seek first to understand, then be understood.”

Through compassion, deep listening, and modeling loving behavior, we plant the seeds that will blossom into the world we want to live in.

I know I can do better—and I invite you to join me in choosing peace, one conversation, one post, one action at a time.

And rest assured there's still tons of funny, inspiring and powerful memes to share!
