Feeling Frustration and Knowing When to Walk Away

Sep 05, 2024
Diane L Haworth

The other day I sat down to create a free online event. I’ve done this countless times and know exactly how to navigate the platform. It’s usually fast and easy. Not this time.

I found myself retyping the same content over and over, trying to load it correctly. When I realized how long this was dragging on, I paused, took a deep breath, and deleted the event. “Not a problem,” I thought. I shut down the program, rebooted, and started fresh. Same issue. Again.

Determined to "trick the system," I spent the next few hours trying to create this event that should’ve taken 15 minutes, tops. Finally, I stepped away from my desk, took a walk and came back refreshed and ready to go. Unfortunately, the struggle continued.

As I mentally cycled through my "toolbox" of the techniques I’ve learned to stay calm and heart-centered, I started laughing out loud. Why? The title of the event I was creating is "How to Find Peace in a Chaotic World."

Yes, the irony is not lost on me!

It’s not just family tensions or political debates that can disrupt our peace. Sometimes it’s the day to day challenges - a "fussy" computer, a sick pet, or even a burned dinner - that can tip us over the edge, especially when we’re feeling vulnerable or anxious.

I realize that life is always teaching me, often through experiences like this one! I’m grateful for the awareness that bubbled up in this moment, and I know the tools I use can help you too.
